Somerset children’s centres and getset services

The core purpose of children’s centres is to offer good quality advice and support for young children and their families and extra help for families in greatest need. They do this by focusing on the key areas that make a real difference to children’s lives.

These are:

  • Supporting children, young people and families to help themselves
  • Identifying children, young people and families who need extra help
  • Helping parents to find out what support they need
  • Providing support as soon as it is known that help is needed

The getset service runs from children’s centres and is made up of highly trained professionals who work alongside health visitors in their role of supporting families. They also link in with other services and practitioners such as schools, pre-school settings, Children’s Social Care and local health teams.
